In view of the humanitarian challenges caused by the forced expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and the simultaneous closure of border crossings, on November 1, His Excellency Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, Ambassador of Afghanistan in Islamabad—accompanied by the Honorable Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir, Consul General in Peshawar, and his accompanying delegation—visited several areas and camps along the route from Azakhail to Landi Kotal-Khyber Pass, where Afghan refugees had been stranded due to the closure of crossing points.
As the Embassy had been assured by the Government of Pakistan yesterday regarding the reopening of the Torkham crossing, fortunately, a large number of refugees were able to cross the border today. However, many others remained stranded, whose concerns were attentively heard by the Ambassador and his accompanied delegation.
Subsequently, the Ambassador oversaw the distribution of food items provided by the Embassy and the Consulate General among the returning and stranded refugees. In addition, financial assistance was extended to a number of those in greatest need.
